Do it Digital!

Over the last several months I have shared with you many ideas and thoughts about the scrapbook industry, including my favorite scrapbook products to use and some fancy techniques to try while recording your memories. Well, I have been holding out on you. I held out on a topic that is cutting edge within the industry because I knew I needed a full article to dedicate solely to the topic. That topic is Digital Scrapbooking.

Digital Scrapbooking is blossoming right now into the industry at full speed ahead. Several online communities are focusing exclusively on “going digital” and others are adding it as a component to their paper layouts. Most anyone who has an online community is doing it digital in one fashion or another. As a matter of fact, the trend is so hot that there is a new magazine coming out soon, completely dedicated to digital scrapbooking.

Before I go too much further into this, let me talk about the new craze and what it consists of. Basically, Digital Scrapbooking is achieved in many fashions and levels much like the many fashions and levels in paper scrapbooking. However, Digital Scrapbooking is achieved through using your computer, your scanner and/or your digital camera. You create layouts through programs on your computer and then save them and make them into full albums or individual layouts by printing them out.

All of my digital scrapping is done through a program called Picaboo. I was able to download their software for free at www.Picaboo.com and start creating right away. The program is as easy as dragging and dropping your photos into their program to create unbelievable albums that can be viewed while listening to any song you choose to go with it. You can e-mail out the albums to your family and friends and they can view them from their e-mail or from the Picaboo software. The other attribute that really excites me is that I can create very complex digital layouts in my own drawing program and import them right into the Picaboo program as well.

The best part of Digital Scrapbooking is not having to physically recreate the layouts for everyone in your family. I go into Picaboo and it lets me choose an option called “Print Bound Albums.” A few days later the very album I created on my computer shows up at my home or can be sent to our friends or relatives via Picaboo. It is a real treat for me to be able to share online or on paper the albums that I love so much without having to scrap them twice.

I encourage everyone to give Digital Scrapbooking a try. I highly recommend www.Picaboo.com as an easy way to get up and running and would encourage you to look into their online community as well for tips and tricks focusing on “Doing it Digital.”

Happy Scrapping!
