| Mini-Albums, All the Rage! Alicia Bull May 2, 2005 Mini-Albums, All the Rage! The word “Scrapbook” is difficult to describe these days. No longer do we assume that a scrapbook has to be in 12 x 12 or 8 ½ x 11 formats. As a matter of fact, all the rage is creating mini-albums most commonly found in 6 x 6 or 8 x 8 sizes. I’m actually fond of the new trend for a few selfish reasons. Those reasons being that first and foremost, when I create a 6 x 6 album, I get immediate gratification. I can complete a 6 x 6 album in a day because the pages go together so easily. I put one focus picture and some printed paper on each page of 6 x 6 cardstock with a small embellishment and fiber. My page is as complete looking as some of the 12 x 12 pages I spend a whole day working on. I guess I also kind of like the ease of being able to cut a piece of 12 x 12 paper into quarters and get four 6 x 6 sheets (I tend to be a penny pincher). Secondly, there are a lot of situations in life when I would like to give a scrapbook as a gift to someone. Whether it is a baby, wedding or a birthday, I feel overwhelmed at the thought of having to make a huge album on that single occasion. A mini-album allows me to scrap the occasion without the detail of a larger album. Mini-albums are everywhere. You can buy them at scrapbook supply stores or you can make your own. It just depends on what direction you want to go with your project. Some of my favorite brands to purchase are the cloth Making Memory 6 x 6 albums, as well as the 6 x 6 Little Keepers. Both brands can be found at www.TheHappyScrapper.com for around $12.50. Making your own mini-album can be done in many fashions. Some of my favorite album making techniques are paper bag albums, tag albums or accordion fold albums. You can see samples of all kinds of mini albums by going to www.TheHappyScrapper.com. Again, these options are all affordable, different and very fun. The DIY Network is actually showcasing a special segment on their channel on creating mini-albums this month. It will air May 12th at 10:00 EST. I also have included a list of links below that better explain how to create your own mini-albums. I hope you enjoy the links and encourage you to try out a new technique. Paper Bag Album Accordion Album Tag Album |
